Ventilation- An Engineering Control
Length: 1 Day (8 hours)
Suggested Participants:
Technical Support Personnel- Responsible for the application and design of portable air filtration systems used to
control contamination at the source.
Radiological Operations Personnel- Involved in the installation, operation, maintenance, and testing of portable
air handlers.
The Presentation:
This Course is normally presented at the Client’s facility in order to minimize expenses and staff disruption. A suitable
classroom with an overhead projector, a dry erase board, and sufficient space for setup of a portable air filtration unit
and ancillary equipment is required. Other arrangements for presentations at our facility or another of your choice can
be negotiated. Courses of a customized nature can be provided.
Description of the Course:
This Course has been designed to aid in compliance with the 10 CFR 21 and 10 CFR 835. It will provide participants
with the knowledge necessary to configure, erect, operate, test, and maintain a portable air filtration system. This
Course has been designed to demonstrate how the use of portable air cleaning systems can control contamination at
the source and ultimately reduce worker exposure.
Anticipated Benefits:
By becoming knowledgeable of the theory and application of air filtration systems, participants will have the ability to be
proactive in their engineering controls applications. Internal exposures can be reduced or avoided, thereby increasing
worker safety and avoiding dose assessment costs and complications.
Credit:
• 6 CEC’s by AAHP for 8 hr. course.
• These CECs are applicable for use by CHPs in their recertification program.
What Participants Will Learn:
Training By Engineering Control Professionals:
RPS is the industry leader in the engineering, design, and use of engineering controls as a method to capture contamination
at the source. Application of these techniques has proven over time to be the most cost effective method to control
contamination. Using our extensive experience base, we have developed this course to equip the participants with the
knowledge required for practical application of portable air filtration systems as a primary means to control radioactive
contaminates in the working environment.
RPS has over 30 years of experience working with the DoE and DoD.
